Roof coverings for 130 properties with a variety of different design specifications

What We Did

Otter Grange is Located on an 11.45 acre development on the eastern edge of the delightful country town of Ottery St Mary and surrounded by open farmland. It will be home to 130 properties consisting of 78 private homes, plus 52 affordable houses from one bedroom apartments to five bedroom detached houses.

The development consists of a mixture of dwellings in both size and design and is part of Redrows new Heritage collection, pairing traditional exterior with modern interior giving a home that meets everyone’s needs.

Both Western Counties Roofing and Redrow strive to use material that are from credited sources and in keeping with the area, concrete interlocking tiles were specified for the roof covering of 130 properties, concrete are a cost effective alternative to clay tiles and have become one of the most popular choice of roof covering across the UK. They offer longevity, durability, and versatility. Available in a vast choice of tiles in different sizes, styles, colours and textures. This allowed variety across the development.

This is a multi phase product requiring an average of four roofers on site. One of the challenges Western Counties roofing face is the fast production programme and good communication is imperative for the smooth running of this project, ensuring procurement times on materials can be met and labour can be organised for when the roof comes ready. Installing concrete interlocking tiles reduces installation time and quantity of materials required due to the size of the tile, resulting in faster installation and a reduction in labour. A lead smith is required on all roofs to waterproof the perimeter and abutments.
