What We Did
The development is situated on site of the former Brookdale Hotel for a development of 45 one and two bedroom Retirement Living apartments on Tregolls Road. The Lys Lander development will include a communal lounge for socialising which has a conservatory overlooking the elevated communal terrace and gardens. The local shops and amenities of Truro are located approximately 0.3 miles away from Lys Lander.
Western Counties Roofing were contracted to provide a roof covering across the unit equating 1500 square meters of natural Brazilian slate and 300 square meters of Asphalt. Natural Brazilian graphite slate offers a unique and attractive roof covering which can transform a building; giving aesthetically pleasing, stylish results, whilst providing a waterproof layer with proven longevity and ability to withstand severe weather conditions. Sarnafil single ply was applied to the flat roof area and asphalt was applied to the internal box gutters, due to its strength and ability to withstand foot traffic.
The roof is extremely large on incorporates several, hips, ridges and valleys. The slate was double lapped with a broken bond pattern and fixed with hooks due to the geographical location, its prone to high winds. Due to the size and the design of the roof, accessing internal roof areas and getting materials to the middle of the roof proved to be difficult meaning the operatives had to be carry loads manually which is time consuming and use of the crane had to be programmed in which was only on site for a limited period. This project took 26 weeks and had a workforce of 8 operatives.
