What We Did
As part of the redevelopment of the holiday park, a green roof was to be installed across the main building. The main building is a single story building however the roof is split into different sections which have different roof heights. A combination of roofing materials was required.
Western Counties Roofing work together with market leading horticultural consultants, to design bespoke green roofing solutions, ensuring the correct waterproofing systems are installed to suit the individual project criteria for the green roof. Green roofs consist of several layers of a growing medium planted over a waterproofed roof surface. The waterproof membrane installed as the base for the green roof was Cefil RP, a total of 1400 meters squared was required for the project. Cefil pride themselves in staying at the forefront of leading edge technology in waterproofing systems and is BBA certified to have a life expectancy in excess of 25 years. Cefil RP is cross reinforced with a woven high tensile polyester carrier, engineered to with stand severe wind loads and the most extreme weather conditions and suitable of all types of intensive, extensive or bio-diverse green roofs. An extensive green roof system was specified which consists of a lightweight hardy mat of sedum vegetation and requires little maintenance. 200 meters squared of natural Brazilian slate was installed as vertical wall panels.
Western Counties roofing have deployed a team of six operatives including fully trained and approved installers of Cefil Single, slaters and a leadsmith. The project is to be completed to schedule however a challenge of the project is the location of the site, it is highly exposed to changing conditions, operatives have to contend with strong winds on high land.
