Traditionally cedar shakes are hand split using a mallet and froe, there are now a few techniques used to give variants in appearance. Shakes are generally heavier, thicker and sometimes longer than Shingles giving an irregular rustic appearance.
Cedar shakes are lightweight, strong and provide excellent installation and are becoming increasingly popular for the production of energy efficient buildings.
Cedar shakes are supplied in a bundle in random widths and can be applied untreated or with a timber preservative and fire retardant. They are double lapped and fixed in straight broken bond pattern similar to plain tiles.
Western Counties Roofing have highly trained and experiences operative in installing shakes and only install products from leading manufacturers and suppliers.
