National Federation of Roofing Contractors - Western Counties Roofing

As a business and to utilise and promote “best practice” within the industry, Western Counties Roofing maintains strong links with the manufactures and supplies of roofing products.

Market leaders such as Lafarge Roofing Systems, Marley Building Materials and Eternit are important links in our supply chain. Each have strategically placed manufacturing and distribution points making products readily available.

With technical support and on going product research and development that leads the industry, we can always be confident in the products we use and their suitability for the project. There has been much editorial noting concerns of skill shortages within the building sector. Recognising this, many leading contractors are keen to develop partnerships with their sub contractors. One such partnership currently exists between ourselves and Midas Homes (part of the Galliford Try group). This partnership has now been in place for 3 years and continues to go from strength to strength. The benefits are numerous. Advice and information can be exchanged on products and services for specific projects and suitability. Suppliers are keen to be involved as product choice is more defined. There are more controls in the terms of availability of materials and labour, the peaks and troughs can be smoothed out.

Western Counties Roofing Firmly believe in the strengths of partnering and continue to encourage more of our existing customers into similar agreements. Many development projects within Devon and Cornwall demand a natural slate roof covering. This could be planner driven, a need to match in with existing properties, or conservation requirements.

Western Counties Roofing - Midas Homes SSQ Group

To meet these demands, Western Counties Roofing work closely with SSQ (Spanish Slate Quarries) who produce a variety of slates from various parts of the world, each with unique features or colours that closely match local slates. With a technical department available to produce answers to any technical or design issue, every effort is made to provide a durable trouble free roof covering.

Evidence of how well companies can work together is provided in the editorial recently published by SSQ, this details the partnership relationship with exists between our companies.

A Midas touch for Western Counties housing!

Residential projects undertaken by an established partnership between regional market leaders Midas Homes and Western Counties Roofing are now benefiting from a smooth, integrated package of technical support and product supply from SSQ.

This relatively unique dialogue between manufacturer, supplier and developer has facilitated better long-term planning and project management with an improved availability of labour, a smooth flow of materials and the ability to readily deliver projects on time and within budget.

Input from the SSQ technical team and Western Counties Roofing early in the design stage has ensured best practice construction which meets even the most challenging planning, environmental and conservational requirements. In particular SSQ ’s grey-green Riverstone slate is the ideal match for the type of slates used for centuries in the South West. With good distribution facilities and excellent technical back-up, the partnership with SSQ goes from strength to strength.”

Midas Homes Technical Co-ordinator, Ron King, adds “At Midas Homes we have been delighted with the quality of the end product and the support we have received along the way from both Western Counties Roofing and SSQ.”
