Project Brief

Dukes Court is a development of 42 one and two bedroom Retirement Living apartments build by McCarthy and Stone. Western Counties Roofing were contracted by McCarthy and Stone to install a roof coverings for the new build of retirement apartments over three units, working together to provide a contemporary development of 42 one and two bedroom retirement apartments for the over 55’s.

What We Did

The elegant design of Dukes Court is in keeping with the local architecture and most apartments feature walk out balconies. Other facilities include a lounge for socialising, a guest suite and two lifts. The development consists of a large main building with a roofing area of 1754 meters squared. The roof covering specified was Cupa natural slate, CUPA PIZARRAS is the world leader in the natural roofing slate sector. Natural slate is a unique roofing covering offering natural beauty, with proven durability, longevity and resistance to extreme weather conditions.

32,000 slates were required to cover a roof area of 1754 meters squared on the main building, slates were double lapped and laid in a broken bond pattern. Sarnafil single ply was applied to the high level flat roofs and box gutters equating to 95 meters squared. All materials were lifted by crane reducing carrying time and all works were completed to time over a 20 week programme with a workforce of two slaters and two trained and approved Sarnafil installers.
